Hey ladies, Thanks so much to those of you who came out last Wednesday for the Team Meet & Greet. We had a lot of fun and I am more excited than ever about playing ALTA Fall 2011! Just a few reminders, this is long, but please read entire email.... -please make sure that you have registered on www.tennispoint.com so that you can post your availability when the ALTA schedule is released this week. For new players, if you have not received an invitation to join by tonight, please let me know. Elizabeth, Suzette and Sherry, I still need you to register. You will be able to edit your availability as the season progresses, so if something comes up, no worries, just make sure that you confirm no later than a week before a scheduled match whether you are available. -if you have not been officially added to the team yet, you will be added this weekend after the Captain's meeting. Please make sure that you get your ALTA number to me with the 2011 dues paid in order for me to add you to the team. I can add up to 6 additional team members. Currently, the players I am planning to add are: Teresa Lin, Sandy Craig and Elisa Colley. Two others have expressed interest as well. -**Non-Mayfair/St Clair Residents**: We have been informed that there is an out-of-neighborhood player fee of $20 per person per season. Please make check payable to "Mayfair St Clair HOA" and bring to one of your upcoming lessons prior to the start of the season to give to either Sue or myself. -**For the players who have not played in a while or ever**: It is absolutely essential that you are comfortable with the the scoring and general rules of the game before you are scheduled for your first match. It is a violation of ALTA rules for me, Sue, Sonya, or anyone else to coach you from the sidelines during a match. The team could be disqualified and we will lose the match. So, once you step out on the court, you are totally on your own. We can cheer for you, but cannot offer advice or tips. Please make sure that you do not indicate that you are "available" on the schedule until you are also "ready", or you may be scheduled to play. We are trusting that you will know when you are ready much more than we will. -because of the HOA rules regarding when we can start lessons, the first week of school, additions to the roster, schedule changes and the craziness of trying to put everyone in the proper time slot... lessons this week and next week will be optional (but highly recommended). The cost for the season lessons will be seperate from the cost for these two weeks. Obviously there was no Monday morning lesson this week, but Wednesday evening lessons/practice will still happen. If you are scheduled for Monday mornings and still want to participate in a lesson/practice this week, just come on Wednesday night at either 7 or 8 PM. Not sure what the format will be just yet, Sonya, Sue and I are still working through the details, it may be a practice, a round robin, a lesson or a combo. If you cannot make it Wednesday night, Sonya is also available on Sunday evening from 7-8 PM for a private/semi-private lesson. Please contact her directly to set something up if you are interested: simonsez11@msn.com -Starting the week of August 29th, everyone will be expected to start lessons in their proper time slot and payment for the entire season of lessons will be due, payable to Sonya McMichael. Since there are some new changes to the roster that ultimately will effect the lineup for lessons, we will let you know the cost next week. At that point, if you need to miss a lesson or switch with someone in another time slot, that will be your responsibility to take care of. You will not be reimbursed for missed lessons, so it is in your best interest to switch with someone if possible.
-As the season nears, it is important to play practice matches. So, feel free to contact other team members at your leisure to set up practice matches just to get on the court. The lessons will be much different than an actual match, matches allow you the opportunity to put your skills/knowledge to the test. The purpose of lessons is to perfect certain skills, and with just one hour per week, there may not be enough time to try to play a match during each lesson, especially because we are only allotted one court per lesson (although an extra one may be available). To set up a practice match, you can contact your team members through www.tennispoint.com and the system even allows you to schedule "fun matches". If you have 4 players you can play a doubles match, but even if you just have two people, you can at least practice hitting back and forth and serving. Remember to go to www.reservemycourt.com to reserve a court at MFSC. Court 1 is the closest to the pool, and court 3 is next to the gazebo. There is no charge to reserve a court, but you will need to set up a login and it will need to be verified by Bryan Southard before you can make a reservation. I will send another update ASAP regarding the Wednesday evening format, as well as next week's format for lessons/practice. Sorry to flood you with so much information, but hope you find it helpful. Have a great day! With Kindest Regards, Angela Gennari, CMP, SFR
