Tonight

Hey ladies,
Just a reminder that Beer & Babes is tonight on court #4 if anyone is interested in coming out for a little casual playing time. Just bring your racquet and BYOB if interested. There is no coach/lesson, just a little playing time in a fun environment. Husbands and kids are always welcome as well. People usually get there around 7 or so. Sue and I will be playing a match on court 1 at 6, but will probably stay later for B&B.

Have a great weekend!!!

With Kindest Regards,
Angela Gennari, CMP, SFR

Fw: Schedule is available!

Date: Sunday, August 21, 2011, 12:15 PM

Hello ladies,
I just wanted to let you know that the ALTA schedule has finally been released! The good news is... we don't have to travel very far for any away matches. The not-so-good news is, we did not get approved for the C8 level I requested. Based on the playing history of our top 10 players (according to ALTA), we have been placed in the C5 division. I have begged and pleaded to have us adjusted a little lower, but unfortunately this is non-negotiable at this point. So, we will do our best to get you ready for matches, and most of all, we will work diligently to ensure that no matter what the scoreboard says, that you are having the best time ever on and off the court. Sue, Sonya and I have all been pleasantly surprised at how well everyone is doing during practice, so don't be fearful that we are now competing at a higher level than we initially thought, just embrace it and do the best you can.

The 5 additional players that were not on the original roster have now been added, so we are a complete team now... super excited about that! The Margarita Mafia consists of 24 incredibly fabulous women!

Also, Sue has put together a mega cool blog just for our team! We will be working on it this week to make sure that it includes all sorts of great information that you can reference to find out all about what is happening with our team. All of the past emails will be added to it, as well as the ALTA rules, links to important websites, player profiles and team announcements. Thanks Sue for your genious idea!

Fw: ALTA Tennis Update

Date: Tuesday, August 16, 2011, 12:51 PM

Hey ladies,
Thanks so much to those of you who came out last Wednesday for the Team Meet & Greet. We had a lot of fun and I am more excited than ever about playing ALTA Fall 2011!  Just a few reminders, this is long, but please read entire email....

-please make sure that you have registered on www.tennispoint.com so that you can post your availability when the ALTA schedule is released this week. For new players, if you have not received an invitation to join by tonight, please let me know. Elizabeth, Suzette and Sherry, I still need you to register. You will be able to edit your availability as the season progresses, so if something comes up, no worries, just make sure that you confirm no later than a week before a scheduled match whether you are available.

-if you have not been officially added to the team yet, you will be added this weekend after the Captain's meeting. Please make sure that you get your ALTA number to me with the 2011 dues paid in order for me to add you to the team. I can add up to 6 additional team members. Currently, the players I am planning to add are:  Teresa Lin, Sandy Craig and Elisa Colley. Two others have expressed interest as well.

-**Non-Mayfair/St Clair Residents**: We have been informed that there is an out-of-neighborhood player fee of $20 per person per season. Please make check payable to "Mayfair St Clair HOA" and bring to one of your upcoming lessons prior to the start of the season to give to either Sue or myself.

-**For the players who have not played in a while or ever**: It is absolutely essential that you are comfortable with the the scoring and general rules of the game before you are scheduled for your first match. It is a violation of ALTA rules for me, Sue, Sonya, or anyone else to coach you from the sidelines during a match. The team could be disqualified and we will lose the match. So, once you step out on the court, you are totally on your own. We can cheer for you, but cannot offer advice or tips. Please make sure that you do not indicate that you are "available" on the schedule until you are also "ready", or you may be scheduled to play. We are trusting that you will know when you are ready much more than we will.

-because of the HOA rules regarding when we can start lessons, the first week of school, additions to the roster, schedule changes and the craziness of trying to put everyone in the proper time slot... lessons this week and next week will be optional (but highly recommended). The cost for the season lessons will be seperate from the cost for these two weeks. Obviously there was no Monday morning lesson this week, but Wednesday evening lessons/practice will still happen. If you are scheduled for Monday mornings and still want to participate in a lesson/practice this week, just come on Wednesday night at either 7 or 8 PM. Not sure what the format will be just yet, Sonya, Sue and I are still working through the details, it may be a practice, a round robin, a lesson or a combo. If you cannot make it Wednesday night, Sonya is also available on Sunday evening from 7-8 PM for a private/semi-private lesson. Please contact her directly to set something up if you are interested: simonsez11@msn.com

-Starting the week of August 29th, everyone will be expected to start lessons in their proper time slot and payment for the entire season of lessons will be due, payable to Sonya McMichael. Since there are some new changes to the roster that ultimately will effect the lineup for lessons, we will let you know the cost next week. At that point, if you need to miss a lesson or switch with someone in another time slot, that will be your responsibility to take care of. You will not be reimbursed for missed lessons, so it is in your best interest to switch with someone if possible.
-As the season nears, it is important to play practice matches. So, feel free to contact other team members at your leisure to set up practice matches just to get on the court. The lessons will be much different than an actual match, matches allow you the opportunity to put your skills/knowledge to the test. The purpose of lessons is to perfect certain skills, and with just one hour per week, there may not be enough time to try to play a match during each lesson, especially because we are only allotted one court per lesson (although an extra one may be available). To set up a practice match, you can contact your team members through www.tennispoint.com and the system even allows you to schedule "fun matches". If you have 4 players you can play a doubles match, but even if you just have two people, you can at least practice hitting back and forth and serving. Remember to go to www.reservemycourt.com to reserve a court at MFSC. Court 1 is the closest to the pool, and court 3 is next to the gazebo. There is no charge to reserve a court, but you will need to set up a login and it will need to be verified by Bryan Southard before you can make a reservation.

I will send another update ASAP regarding the Wednesday evening format, as well as next week's format for lessons/practice. Sorry to flood you with so much information, but hope you find it helpful. Have a great day!

With Kindest Regards,
Angela Gennari, CMP, SFR

Fw: Tennis Stuff

Date: Monday, July 18, 2011, 4:03 PM

Hi ladies,
Couple of things:
First, you should have received an invitation to join our team on www.tennispoint.com. Instead of using Netcord, this website was recommended to me and I really like the detail it provides for us and the ease of use. Please sign up for your free player profile so that we may use it to communicate with you throughout the season. You will be able to post your availability, upload team/match/individual photos, view team stats, review scheduled matches and send emails to the team. I had a little fun naming the team, and opted not to go with the boring old "MFSC C-8" title, hope no one is offended by it.

Second, you should have also received an evite to our team meet and greet scheduled for August 10th. It will be a fun, casual gathering. Bring your racquet and a dish to share. I am thinking that in line with our team name, we should have it be a Mexican Fiesta theme to make it even more fun. Please see the evite to sign up for something to bring.

If you haven't received either of those invitations, please check your spam filter and make sure to add those email addresses to your "safe" list.

Lastly, I found a website that is really informative regarding all things tennis....
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/LC/. Obviously they want to sell you their equipment, but it is the best online source by far that I have found for learning about the "stuff" needed to play the game properly. They even have some how-to videos and instruction on the game itself. Hope you find it helpful.

With Kindest Regards,
Angela Gennari, SFR
